Many web applications are now composed of data from multiple backend services, each focused on a specific domain of data. Handling these services can cause performance issues because "over the wire" data is orders of magnitude slower than locally-available data.

This session is a broad overview of a variety of methods and architectures for caching data to improve performance. These techniques range from autonomous HTTP caches like reverse proxies to manually-managed cache systems like memcached and others. In addition, there are techniques for caching SQL and NoSQL database data to avoid repetitive queries.
Web apps that use multiple microservices can also benefit from architectural changes such as adding a service aggregation layer to minimize HTTP requests and improve the cacheability of the data.
