Migrating from Amazon AWS to OpenStack - Steve Curry, Metacloud
Companies large and small are enjoying the agility and ease of use provided by the public cloud. But these benefits do come with drawbacks, and the biggest may be cost. For both large enterprises and SMEs, the public cloud can be startlingly expensive at scale. For companies experiencing rapid growth, every day they grow their usage of public cloud resources brings them one day closer to a call from the CFO regarding another rapid growth...operating expense.

In this presentation Steve Curry will go over a case study featuring a rapidly growing and large consumer of Amazon AWS who was feeling the pain and costs associated with running entirely in the public cloud. This customer found not only found economies of scale in an OpenStack-based private cloud, but also feature parity, ease of use, and self-provisioning capabilities that made the value of on premise private cloud clear.

OpenStack in 10 Minutes with Devstack - Sean Dague, HP
The best way to understand the cloud, is to have one of your own to kick around, poke, break, fix, and see what it looks like when it's running. In OpenStack we've got a whole project called Devstack which is designed to quickly bootstrap the latest git versions of all the OpenStack components and create an experimentation friendly OpenStack environment.

This talk will introduce Devstack, how to get a running OpenStack with it, and how one might begin making changes and seeing them in action. We'll explore a few of the major OpenStack services, see what's going on, all with the intent to explain what OpenStack is by seeing not only the interface, but the internals at work.

Getting Data Out of Your Cloud(s) With Open Source - Cody Herriges, Puppet Labs
Many Operations teams will find that at some point in time that a single cloud technology is not serving the business' needs and so they'll diversify. It is apparent fairly quickly that all these systems either have their own internal view of what it going on or have a complete lack of insight all together. To make a sound decision about where to invest your time and money you need to get all this usage and performance data into one place so it can be crunched and beautifully displayed.

Open source makes this possible by giving you a level of flexibility hard to find in other tools. We'll take a look at how we can instrument open source platforms like OpenStack and proprietary platforms: AWS and vSphere by utilizing the open source tools: ElasticSearch, Graphite, and Diamond.
