David Klann has been an avid user and supporter of Linux and open source since the early days of Perl, elm, and Usenet. He jumped on the Linux bandwagon after seeing Linus Torvald's original post to comp.os.minix (he had already ported Minix to the AT&T PC6300 in the mid 1980's). He's worked in a wide variety of positions in the tech industry over the years: after cutting his teeth on BSD UNIX (on the Fortune 32:16 computer) he spent ten years building UNIX-based (System V) and real-time OS "distributions" for an embedded hardware manufacturer, then eight years designing and securing enterprise networks. In addition to running a community radio station entirely on open source software, David works as a Linux system administrator for a regional wholesale ISP serving rural telephone companies and their customers in Wisconsin.
